I originally signed the guestbook back in 2001 and as I have just changed my e-mail I thought I would post my message again - My mother died when I was quite young and I have discovered that she was born in Caverswall. Can anyone help with information regarding my mother and/or her family? She was born in 1910 her name was Grace Elkin, mother Emily Jane Elkin, nee Weaver, father John Thomas Elkin, beerseller, they lived in Dividy Lane. Any information welcome. Any costs incurred will be refunded.

What a wonderful site, Steve. I wish every parish had one just like it. My ancestors came from Cheddleton rather than Caverswall, but there's mention of enough Brassingtons on the site to make me realise there's plenty more searching to do!

My Grandmother Elizabeth Millington was born in Mear Lane, Caverswall in 1874 and I would like to know exactly where this is. In the 1871 Census there were about 80 houses in Mear Lane and it seemed to be near the Castle. Is that right? any help appreciated. Admin reply: Hi Chris,
