Wonderful website! I believe my great-great grandfather, John Bentley was born in Caverswall, eventually ending up in Longton. I hope to get in touch with other Bentley family researchers, since I have not been able to go beyond the 1831 Census information.

I especially liked the cemetery transcriptions. Thanks for all your work.

I wonder if there are any descendents of the BRIDGETT families still living in Caverswall ?
I lived in Cheadle in WW2 but have found a lady in New Zealand who is descended from the Bridgett family and would love to put her in touch.
In 1851 the Bridgett family were living in Dilhorne on Sutherland St ? off Cinderhill.
The family was James Bridgett & wife Sarah (MEAR)
William (1840) who married Emma HARVEY.
Harriet (1834) who married Joeph HEATH.
John (1836) who married Hannah BRADSHAW.
Ellen (1838)
Edwin (1844)
Charles (1847)

Thank you for your time.
Congratulations on a lovely site.

On researching family history, I believe that my great-grandfather (John Joseph Bentley) was descended from a.John and Ellen Bentley (nee Flower)- father and mother and b.Thomas and Frances Bentley - grandfather and grandmother - whose tombs are in Caverswall Churchyard.
John was born in 1769 and his siblings were Frederick, Thomas (married Mary Bolton, Richard (married Lydia Bolton) and Ellen.
Would love to hear from anyone who has any additional information about the Bentley family.

Hi there. What a wonderful site. Brings back memories. I lived in Weston Coyney and went to St Filumena's R C School in Caverswall from 1962 to 1968 (I think, roughly) when my family moved to Stone. I have travelled round the country since then but have been living in Rugby for the last 21 years. I would love to hear from anyone who might remember me (aka millie mops.

My 4th great grandparents were married at St. Peter's, Caverswall. Anne Lovatt & James Colclough, August of 1842. I am interested in Anne's family--her father was William, and he was a shoemaker.

Further to previous post, forgot to say that great grandad Samuel Lee,was listed on the 1901 census as being in Oldham. Just wondered whether he returned to Caverswall to be buried, or to his birthplace in Nottingham

I am trying to find out where my great grandma is buried. She was Mary Worsdale and she married my great grandad Samuel Lee and on the 1891 census they were living in Meir Lane Caverswall with my grandad harry(2) and great uncle Samuel. Mary died in 1898 when grandad was 9 and in 1901 samuel too must have died as Grandad was living with his brother Samuel and his wife Mary Ellen hall and their daughter Sarah(known to us as Sally)Can anyone shed any light on where Great grandma and great grandad for that matter are buried.
Thanks very much

Dear Caverswall Genealogists,

Many of my ancestors originated in Caverswall Parish & I am participating in "the People of the British Isles" research project, for which volunteers are required who can trace their ancestry (all 4 grandparents) to one locality. If any family historians among you would be willing to participate, details can be found at the website - peopleofthebritishisles.org

kind regards,

Sue Embury

Some years ago, when doing my "family tree" with a relative, we were taken back through Elmhurst near Lichfield, Higham-on-the-Hill in Leicestershire, Lane End, now Longton, to Caverswall. One of our forebears, Ralph Mellor (the spelling of the family name varies!), was baptised at Caverswall in 1698, and died in Lane End in 1804, aged 106. His father, also from Caverswall, was another Ralph (baptised 1656 in Caverswall), as was his father, yet another Ralph in the 1630s. Is anyone else working on the same line, or can offer any fruther information? If so, I would love to hear from them.
