The Planning Authority

The planning authority for the parish of Caverswall is Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC). They have published a comprehensive website which includes information about making  planning applications. There is also an option to search for applications that have been received. Each application has a separate on-line file where you can view the key details and also see copies of the documentation. You can comment on the proposals and to help you with this the website includes a guide to supporting, objecting or commenting. The information and guidance notes are important because the law only allows certain things to be taken into consideration. For example, loss of a view or issues relating to property values cannot be addressed through the planning process.

Planning Applications and the role of the Parish Council

SMDC notify the parish council when a planning application has been received and the parish council is given a formal opportunity to comment on the proposals. The views of residents are always welcomed by the parish council whether they are supporting or objecting to an application. All planning applications are discussed at the meetings of the parish council.
