My maternal grandfather was Clifford Horace Brassington born in Cardiff 1888. Having joined an ancestry website, it appears his male line, comes from Caverswall, and draycott. I have managed to get names of Brassingtons and dates of birth and death, but have no information on the people themselves. I am dying to find out more and think we should probably come up that way, for record reasons and also to see where all my relatives lived over the centuries! I have recorded an unbroken line, right back to 1489, In see there is a Brassington on the war memorial! The family must still be in that area. Looking forward to *** any news or info!!!!! Many thanks.

What a nice trip down memory lane. I went to St Peters under headmistress Kathleen Rogers leaving around 1981. I lived in School Lane until 1996 when I left home. Nice to see so many familiar names, though I'm very dismayed at the recent housing 'developments' in what we were taught was a medieval village that would not succumb to the modern trend.

A most excellent website and a credit to those who set it up and maintain it. I found the website as I am tracing relatives on my mother's *** who came from all around the five towns that surround Stoke. My grandmother was Clarissa Barnett (1893-1969) and grandfather William Edwin Barnett (1891-1976). They retired to Caverswall sometime in the early 1960s to a bungalow on the Blyth Bridge Road. Keep up the good work.

Can anyone advise me please. I understand the Auctioneers Arms PH has been sold and will no longer be a public house. This will be a sad loss to the local residents who have been using the pub for many years and deem it to be a community asset. There is no indication of what the building will become and there is a fear that it will be boarded up and left unoccupied for a long time ultimately leading to vandalism.
Can you please advise me on how the building can remain as a community asset and therefore allow the local residents of Caverswall and Cookshill to have a say in the future use of the building.

Regards
Mr. B. Griffiths

Admin reply: Hi Brian,
I have just sent an e-mail to you.

Steve.

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on a matter that has been bothering me for while, does anyone have any information as to how it came about that a public footpath that started halfway up Horton drive from parkhall road that used to take you right on top of parkhall hills came to be gated and padlocked at the Horton drive end and blocked at the hills end blocked with a hedge.how could this have been done as it was a very easy way for people of increasing years to take advantage of the beautiful veiws only available to the fit and young.

Hi,

I am trying to locate the SIMPSON family who lived in 'The Bungalow' Kerry Hill, Caverswell in the late 1930's and early 1940's.

I know that Edith May Simpson & Frank Simpson lived there and had four children:

SIMPSON CHILDREN
Gordon F Simpson born 1936
Brenda M Simpson born 1937
June Simpson born 1938
Hilda W Simpson born 1940

I know that Edith died in May 1942 by accidental means and Frank was already dead at this point.

Edith was only 28 when she died so this would have been an unusual death which I hope someone might remember. I believe that an auntie took the children in following this but have not been able to trace from here.

If you have any information I would be extremely grateful!

Thanks

Hello, my great grandfather, Harry Plant Boughey, and many of his siblings were born in Caverswall. They are listed on the 1871 census in Caverswall but moved to Derby in 1881. The house they lived in was on the Square near the tree. There is a photo of the house in the Galleries section of this website. Thank you for posting!

I'm known as Kay Walker, father Edward A was born Walsall 1902 to William Walker (b. 1870 Walsall) and Gertrude Lawrence (b. 1873). Supposedly related to Simcox and Alcock families plus known connection with Hancox of Caverswall.
This site has been quite useful in giving me possible leads to my own family history. Thank you!
