The research work was carried out by Kevin Salt who has kindly given his consent for the transcriptions to be published here. The ravages of time have taken their toll on some of the memorials and in some cases they are impossible to read. These inscriptions are from the churchyard only and do not include any from the cemetery in the village.

Sacred to the memory of Ralph Lees late of Leek Road in this parish who died 6th May 1811, aged 91 years. Joseph Lees of Stone Smithy in this parish, departed this life the 19th May 1820 and his body is deposited in this tomb, aged 73 years. Spes mea Christus resurgam.
Here lieth the body of Mary, the wife of George Lawton of Whereton Bank in this parish, who died 20th June 1797, aged 78 years.
To the memory of Elizabeth, daughter of Ralph and Sarah Lovatt, who died 14th March 1818, aged 20 years. Also of Thomas, their son, who died 12th June 1831, aged 22 years. All you that do pass by this stone, and see how quickly we were gone, Repent in time make no delay, we in our youth were call’d away. Also of the above Sarah Lovatt who died July 20th 1838, aged 76 years. The above named Ralph Lovatt who died Oct 9th 1854, aged 84 years.

In memory of Hannah, wife of George Mear of Little above Park in the parish of Cheadle, who died March 15th 1838, aged 41 years. In memory of Mary, the wife of Francis Mears of Butfields in this parish, who died 17th August 1821, aged 26 years. Also Sarah, their daughter, who died young. Also George Mear of Little above Park who died January 17th 1875, aged 78 years.
Erected in memory of Thomas Miller who died March 22nd 1856, aged 68 years. Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Miller of this village, who died Jany. 31st 1844, aged 54 years. Isaac, their son, died Decr 31st 1845, aged 24 years. Julia, their daughter, died April 22nd 1844, aged 16 years. Sacred to the memory of Clara daughter of William and Ann Marson of Hardiwick in this parish, who departed this life Oct 21st 1855, aged 14 years. In memory of Richard Plunket, late sergent of the 8th reigiment of foot. He obtained a pension of 40 pounds per annum after 37 years servyitude. He died January 20th 1849, aged 55 years. He was an affectionate husband and a kind father. Also Elizabeth, his daughter, who died on the 1st of April 1852, aged 21 years. Requescat in pace. Also Charlotte, wife of the above, who died Feby. 15th 1860, aged 57 years. Requescat in pace.
Erected in memory of Catherine, the wife of William Phillips of Caverswall Park, who died Augt. 2nd 1857, aged 58 years. Why need we weep for pious friends, or quaked at death’s alarms. Death is the servant Jesus sends, to call us to his arms. Also the said William Phillips who died May 30th 1864, aged 79 years.
