A photograph showing the house in better days when it had a garden and a fish pound surrounded by a pathway. The date of construction is unclear but the Census taken in 1851 reveals that Louisa Stirrup was living at Cinderhill together with her daughters and 3 domestic servants. Her son Thomas Harris Stirrup was also living there. Thomas was aged 22 and his occupation was listed as a Proprietor of Coal Mines and farming 36 acres of land. The census of 1861 tells us that Thomas was a Coal Proprietor employing 207 men and 27 boys. White's Directory of 1851 lists that Adderley Green Colliery was owned by Stirrup and Pye.
