I registered with the website on 13.09.2009 but so far username/password was not activated. Perhaps someone could pass this message to the administrator. Thanks BrianR.

Admin reply: Hi Brian,

The anti spam measures are to blame, sadly they are necessary to prevent the sort of stuff that decent folk don`t want to read Your registration should be ok now.

Great site. Does anyone have any information/photographs of St Andrews C of E Church East Vale. There is very little information about this church although I actually spent most of my childhood there. Many thanks Corinne

Delighted to see the new photo albums on photobucket. Especially the sketch of the original Roughcote farm and the two sketches showing the surrounding fields to Roughcote. Would this building have been standing in 1841 when Richard Simcock was living here?

Can anyone provide information on the graves located just over the back wall of the church yard in the ground of the castle. I was told as a child that these were the graves of children born to the nuns that lived in the castle at that time?

A simple gathering was held recently, to remember Christine Tranter, formerly of Wimdley, High Street Caverswall, who died in the Spring of 2009. She was a Teacher at Caverswall School and a Brownie Leader in the 1960's. She had 2 daughters Ruth and Jane, who were both activiely involved in parish life, before their university studies and later careers took then abroad. Christine and her husband Frank were both Head Teachers, prior to their retirement. Frank was a Sidesman at Caverswall church in the 1960's.Christine came from Yorkshire and went to St Catherine's College Liverpool, to train as a Teacher during the Second World War. The college evacuated to the Lake District, as a result of the constant bombings. It was there that she became friendly with Audrey Boden nee Blackshaw, who still lives in Weston Coyney. Christine lived in Caverswall for well over 50 years, next door to the local Artist and Teacher Tom Hinks, before she moved to Sussex, to be nearer her daughters. She will be sadly missed.
