Thank you for a very useful website. I was born in Longton and my mother, Kathleen Lockett was born in Caverswall. The address given in the 1901 Census is Wolston Road but Steve thinks this was a misspelling - should be Wolstern Road. Thank you Steve.

Hi,
Have just found your site. It is very good. Ihope someone reading this can help me with a branch of my family history that I am having trouble with. My Gt Grandmother was a Margaret Limer or Lymer born Eccleshall. She married an Edward Follows. I cannot find much on the Limers except a 1881 census for a Richard and Mary Lymer who were living at Weston Coney Road Caverswall. His occupation is listed as a gardener. I went into your site to see if there were any big houses in Caverswall where he could have been a gardener and found there was. If any one can give me more info, I'd be very pleased.
Thanks
Jean

I was delighted to find your site, I am researching my family and discovered that my great great grandfather Joseph Fielding was farming in Caverswall in 1841, I believe at Meir, he was married to Ellen Bradbury, they had at least 4 children Thomas b.1823, Ann b.1821, John b.1825 and then George, my gr grandfather b.1839.
I am unable to find George in the 1841 census, but he is on the 1851 census with his brother Thomas then farming the land, no parents alive it seems, also his sister Ann.
I would be most greatfull for any information or how to go about looking in the right place.
We did visit the church while passing through the area and had a quick look at the grave stones, but no Fielding's although I think they might have been Romas Catholics.
Again it was a delight to find the site.

My daughter Emma and myself can never thank the people of Caverswall enough for the kindness we received whilst I was undergoing cancer treatment in 2001/2.
We are always glad to hear from any of you. Our address is Les Villets Forest Guernsey Channel Islands. Special thanks to Mr Beardmore and School staff. We still visit the Church whenever we can.

Wow, I'm impressed, such a wealth of knowledge of local history. I'm trying to research my a**tors, surname WHITEHURST. I know that they originally came from the Staffordshire region and there was a RICHARD WHITEHURST who was granted land in Dilhorne but I'm trying to trace them back. I recently obtained a marriage certificate for JOSEPH WHITEHURST to ELIZABETH WOOD in 1840 and I found from a link on this site that they were married in St. Peter's Church of England in Caverswall. Does anyone have any information about them or the WHITEHURST family? I've found that Joseph's father's name was RALPH WHITEHURST who died in 1849 and I think he came from Cheadle. It would be great to hear from anyone who has any information as it's rather hard to do research from Australia! Thankyou
