Comments: On a whim I decided to do a UK google on my uncle Basil Gower-Jones who once was the minister at the C of E church. Amazingly, on his name alone, up came this site! What's more I actually recognized Basil as the air raid warden in the Home Front - 1940 photo! I stayed with him many times on vacation & later on weekends, when I was a child. I remember he let me ring the church bell! I seem to recall also that the church door had bullet holes in it from way back - the civil war perhaps? He & his wife, Lottie (my mother's sister), had a daughter Monica, who married and, since my parents have passed away, I am unable to contact her. Would appreciate any leads. Basil used to tell me many stories, including his involvement with Edward VIII. This is a great site & thanks so much for the totally unexpected photo which recalls so many childhood memories for an expatriot Liverpudlian!

Comments: Hi, Great site. I lived for a while in caverswall wood with my cousin Kathleen Brookes. We used to walk to the village to get the bus to Moorside with our friend Gillian Swales. We all left school in 1961.Here are a few names that I can remember from the past.Trevor Wood.Ann Heath. The Duckett or Ducker sisters whose father was a councillor and also worked at Kemball Training pit as an instructor. Mrs Ewer. Glynn Holmes from Coalville.I remember the bus journey to school being a bit dodgy on a Berrisford bus. The headmaster at Moorside was Mr Ashton. (taffy). His wife also worked at the school.I worked at Parkhall Pit and Florence Pit before leaving the area never to return. I have lived in Bradford yorks since 1968. Regards John Brookes

Comments: I'm chasing the family history of my Bro.-in-Law, one John Martin, and have found your site hugely helpful. His ancestor was William Martin of Malt House Farm. I have already entered the forum on genealogy to see if I could help the query raised on this property. Keep up the good work.
