Comments: I have a query i hope you can help me with. We have just bought a house which backs on to farm land. In the field directly beghind us, there is a large mound. I have always been told that this is a burial mound for cavalier soldiers. Is this true? I went to Pinewoood school as a child, and we used to have weekly visits from Rev Carr, who was then at St Peters Church, and i distinctly remember him telling us about it. I have been fascinated ever since, and would love to know more. I know many people have claimed to have seen apparitions around the village, particularly in the form of cavaliers. I am very interested in the history of Caverswall and Cookshill since my nan was born in Cookshill, and was taught by the nuns in Caverswall when she was a child, and we talk about her times at school quite alot. So I have always had an interest with the place. More than anything though, I would love to know more about the mound behind my new house, and exactly what it is! I know the castle was a garrisson for cavaliers in the civil war, as i read that in the Spirit Of The Place, so does that have a connection with the mound?

Comments: While researching my family geneology, I may have found that whom I think is my GGGrandfather was from Hulme-Caverswall. His name was Willian Enoch Bull, born about 1815 and married Martha Batkin at Fulford in 1836. After his death in 1873, William was buried at Caverswall. William may have had two sons, William (Born about 1847) and Francis (born about 1854). Francis is the one I am interested in. I believe he may have immigrated to the United States around 1872. Upon arrival I believe Francis took the new first name Thomas and married a Jane Slimm (or Slimon) also from Staffordshire. Together, they had six children in Saint Louis, Missouri (the oldest son named of-course Thomas to whom I am named after). After seeing the Caverswall webpage, I will have to someday take a holiday there and stay perhaps a week to explore the town and local area.

Comments: While researching my family history (Emony)I note that for a period of 30 years they lived in a hamlet "SHEEPWASH" in the parish of Caverswall. I am unable to find any trace of this hamlet on any map. Can anyone help please? Several of my relatives are buried in Caverswall church. Many thanks. Phil.
